Who Are Those Red-Shirted People?

You may have seen them walking around downtown or riding the trolley. But most notably, they are talking to people at one of two carts located in Downtown Scottsdale. They are the Downtown Ambassadors.

Our Scottsdale Ambassadors comprise over 80 volunteers and their mission is to be a welcoming face to all who visit downtown. Stationed at either 5th Avenue & Stetson or Brown & Main, these volunteers are available to offer suggestions on where to eat, shop and what is a 'must' do in downtown. They provide our visitors with area maps, information on special events and brochures relating to area businesses and attractions. So the next time you are in downtown Scottsdale, and you see one of our red shirts, stop by and say hello! They love to chat, check out their video!!

Downtown Construction News

The City of Scottsdale is planning construction work to alleviate flooding and repair waterlines in the downtown area this summer. We are still working on a number of the details, but wanted to let you know the general timeframe for construction now. We will work with individual property and business owners as construction nears and do our best to address all of your concerns regarding construction.

Construction on the Sixth Ave. waterline replacement will begin on June 1, and take about a month to complete. The water line replacement will take place on Sixth Ave. between Stetson Dr. and Scottsdale Rd. New water services will be made to businesses on 6th Ave. There is currently an undersized, 3-inch waterline in Sixth Ave. which will be replaced with a new 8-inch waterline. It is our hope that the majority of this work can be performed at night, and then plated for vehicular use during the day.

Construction on the 5th Ave. drainage project will begin on July 1, 2014 and is tentatively scheduled to take 45 days to complete. There is a flooding problem along 5th Ave. between Craftman Court and Scottsdale Rd.  The street has insufficient capacity to convey storm water runoff and properties along this corridor have experienced flooding as part of past events. This project will add new valley gutters along 5th Ave. to increase runoff capacity and a shallow waterline that serves the area will be replaced.  During construction, 5th Ave. will be closed to all traffic between Craftsmans Court and Scottsdale Rd. Pedestrian access will be maintained at all times. The entire project could take up to nine weeks to complete, but the road closure may only be needed for a portion of that time.
