Getting to Know Your Ambassadors

Laurie Anderson. Laurie grew up in Chicago but has been a Scottsdale resident for eight years. Working in property management and elevator sales, Laurie has just finished her first year as a volunteer Ambassador. When she’s not volunteering for Scottsdale, she spends her time playing golf, going to the movies, traveling and volunteering for other charity events. Instead of supervising 90 mechanics she now enjoys her time meeting new people each day she volunteers in Downtown and being able to bring her out of town guests Downtown to shop and dine. Some of her favorite spots are the Civic Center Mall, particularly during the Art's Festival and dining at the Rusty Spur Saloon.

Downtown Construction News

  1. Construction on the 6th Avenue waterline replacement will begin on June 1, and take about a month to complete. The water line replacement will take place on 6th Avenue between Stetson Drive and Scottsdale Road. New water services will be made to businesses on 6th Avenue. There is currently an undersized, 3-inch waterline in 6th Avenue which will be replaced with a new 8-inch waterline. It is our hope that the majority of this work can be performed at night, and then plated for vehicular use during the day.  For additional information please contact City of Scottsdale Project Manager Chris Perkins at 480-312-7845 or
  2. Construction on the 5th Avenue drainage project will begin on July 1, 2014 and is tentatively scheduled to take 45 days to complete. There is a flooding problem along 5th Avenue between Craftsman Court and Scottsdale Road.  The street has insufficient capacity to convey storm water runoff and properties along this corridor have experienced flooding as part of past events. This project will add new valley gutters along 5th Avenue to increase runoff capacity and a shallow waterline that serves the area will be replaced.  During construction, 5th Avenue will be closed to all traffic between Craftsman Court and Scottsdale Road. Pedestrian access will be maintained at all times. The entire project could take up to nine weeks to complete, but the road closure may only be needed for a portion of that time. For additional information please contact City of Scottsdale Project Manager Chris Perkins at 480-312-7845 or
  3. This summer the aging sewer line will be replaced along Wells Fargo Avenue from the Main Street alignment to Second Street, along Second Street to Drinkwater Boulevard then south along Drinkwater Boulevard to Osborn Road the segment of existing sewer along Wells Fargo Avenue has settled and no longer drains properly. The city intends to begin construction in July with an anticipated completion date of November 2014. For additional information please contact City of Scottsdale Project Manager Eric Waldo at 480-312-7245 or
