Ambassador Don

Getting to Know Your Ambassadors

Meet Don Kirschner. Don grew up in Minnesota but has been in Scottsdale for the past 24 years.  Formerly a VP for a life insurance company, Don now spends his free time creating stone sculptures and traveling internationally.  At one time he was even the past President of the Arizona Artists Guild.  His favorite Downtown event is the Thursday night ArtWalks, and he enjoys meeting and helping visitors to Scottsdale.  When he first started as an Ambassador, his opening line to visitors was “Would you like a free guide to Scottsdale?” but after a lady once replied “Sure! When are you available?” he now quickly offers a Downtown Map & Directory brochure along with his greeting.

The City of Scottsdale’s official Downtown Scottsdale website has been re-engineered to deliver an effortless user experience on desktop and mobile platforms. We encourage you to take it for a spin and let us know what you think! Are you a Downtown business? Please assist us by sending your updated information on this Business Info Form. Your updated information for this free listing is critical.

Downtown Construction News

  1. Downtown waterline and drainage projects will limit access on 5th and 6th avenues. The 6th Avenue waterline replacement project will start Monday, June 16. The majority of work will be done on weeknights from 2 a.m. to 10 a.m. The trenches will be covered to minimize interruptions to traffic and parking during the day. The 5th Avenue drainage improvement project will start in early July after most of the work on 6th Avenue is complete. The scope of the project requires that 5th Avenue be fully closed between Craftsman Court and Scottsdale Road. Sidewalks will remain open, but on-street parking, through traffic and access from the parking structure will be closed. Temporary trolley stops will be set up during the closure. Outreach has taken place over the past year with merchants and property owners to prepare them for construction activity and a website has more information.

  2. This summer the aging sewer line will be replaced along Wells Fargo Avenue from the Main Street alignment to Second Street, along Second Street to Drinkwater Boulevard then south along Drinkwater Boulevard to Osborn Road. The city intends to begin construction in July with an anticipated completion date of November 2014. For additional information please contact Project Manager Eric Waldo at 480-312-7245 or
