Fall Lecture Series Kick Off

Economic Value of Green: Knowledge is EmPOWERing

Date: Thursday, Oct. 5

Time: 7 - 8:30 p.m.

Location: Scottsdale Granite Reef Senior Center, 1700 N. Granite Reef Road (northwest corner of McDowell and Granite Reef, behind the convenience store)

The city of Scottsdale will kick off its green building lecture series on Thursday, Oct. 5 that will focus on the economic value of green high performance homes.

Local industry professionals will discuss energy efficient construction, energy codes, energy audits and the Home Energy Rating System (HERS) Index, gaining more value for appraisals, marketing and selling homes with energy efficient features for the highest possible sale value, where to start first when retrofitting a home with energy efficient features, and how to add green features to a mortgage.

If you're considering retrofitting your home, come hear about which energy efficiency features will add the best return on investment and what features might be important for your family?s comfort and health.

The series will continue Dec. 7 with "Solar Energy & Storage Battery Systems" and Feb. 1 with "Living an Edible Landscape Life." On April 5, the series will be "Building with Earth & Mass in the Dessert" and the final lecture will be June 7 with a discussion on heating and cooling with ductless mini-splits.

 

Speakers:

Jan Green, EcoBroker, Home Smart Elite Group

Jan Green is a certified EcoBroker, NAR GREEN designee and REALTOR® since 2002. She serves as chair of the U.S. Green Building Council, Arizona Chapter Residential Committee, member of the Market Leader Advisory Board, Efficiency First Arizona Advisory Board and instructor at the Scottsdale Area Association of Realtors (SAAR). Jan is co-founder of Pinnacle One Group trades group for homes and speaks frequently residential energy efficiency conferences, realtor associations and title companies to educate the public about homes with energy efficient features.

 

Daran Wastchak, DR Wastchak Energy Efficiency Services

Daran Wastchak is president and owner of D.R. Wastchak (DRW), LLC. His company has been providing support for the Environmental Protection Agency?s ENERGY STAR for Homes program in the Phoenix market since 1999, labeling over 60,000 homes as ENERGY STAR through 2015. DRW also provides LEED for Homes, IECC and Low Income Housing Tax Credit services for single and multifamily projects, consulting and training for homebuilders and homeowners on proper building techniques in accordance with Building Science principles, and forensic evaluations of homes to determine the sources of comfort, health and house performance problems. In recognition of their achievements in promoting ENERGY STAR, assisting builders to build energy efficient homes, and raising the standards of construction in the Phoenix market, DRW has received the EPA?s national "Partner of the Year" award as well as the "Spirit of Enterprise" award for business innovation from the W.P. Carey School of Business at Arizona State University.

Matthew Thorne, Prime Lending Mortgage

Matthew Thorne is Senior loan officer at Prime Lending Mortgage and has been a Originating Home loans since 1998. He has completed over a 1500 Residential Lending transactions since this time and has specialized in Renovation Lending for over 12 years. Matthew also teaches frequently at Realtor associations and Title companies to educate the Real Estate Community about loans with energy efficient features. He is a Graduate from East Carolina University and has written several Continuing Education Classes for the Real Estate community on topics such as Renovation Lending and Green Mortgage Financing. Prime Lending has nearly three decades of lending experience and has a wide variety of Renovation/ Repair Escrow programs for the General Lending needs of the public.
