Author Event: The Children of Willesden Lane

The Children of Willesden Lane

In 1938 a young Jewish pianist, Lisa Jura, came to England with Kindertransport from Vienna to escape the Nazis. There she created a new life and regained her hope to become concert pianist, always remembering her mother's words to her, "Hold on to your music." These words saved her and paved her musical path.

Her daughter, concert pianist Mona Golabek tells her mother's story in this book,
The Children of Willesden Lane. Members of Generations After present a reading and discussion. Library copies are available for checkout prior to the program or after.

The Pain, The Art, The Life of Frida Kahlo

The Pain, The Art, The Life of Frida Kahlo

When Frida's husband, Diego Rivera, was in Paris, he tells this story about his encounter with Pablo Picasso: "Picasso had taken a drawing by Frida, he looked at it for a long time, and then he said, 'Look at those eyes - neither you nor I are capable of anything like this'."

Diego then noticed that in telling him this, he saw that Picasso's own bulging eyes were shining with tears.
