Small Business Assistance Center offers guidance to businesses

The city's Economic Development department launched a new initiative aimed at assisting Scottsdale small businesses. The Scottsdale Small Business Assistance Center (SSBAC) will serve as a virtual one stop shop for Scottsdale businesses looking for information on available business support programs and resources during the COVID-19 crisis. The SSBAC will assist with questions regarding federal, state and other government funding programs, as well as connect businesses with critical resources. Upon contacting the virtual center, individuals will receive an email from the SSBAC team with valuable resources and a commitment that a team member will follow up directly within one business day. The new Scottsdale Small Business Assistance Center can be reached by texting 480-312-3111, emailing [email protected] or visiting the webpage.

Support Scottsdale microsite launches

The city of Scottsdale’s Tourism & Events and Economic Development departments, Experience Scottsdale and the Scottsdale Area Chamber of Commerce have partnered on a resource microsite to help businesses, employees, and residents navigate the COVID-19 outbreak. If you are a business owner or employee, make SupportScottsdale.com your first stop to access city, statewide and national programs to keep your doors open and Scottsdale’s workforce strong. The city is also collecting Instagram handles of businesses actively promoting offers or online shopping, as well as restaurants offering take-out, curbside or delivery, for the Shop Local and Meals To-Go pages of the site. If your business or restaurant fits these prerequisites, please add your Instagram handle and help support this initiative by using #supportscottsdale in your social media efforts.

Thank you, Scottsdale Firefighters Association

The Scottsdale Firefighters Association made the first of two of many donations to their local human services community. The first was $2500 to Scottsdale Community Partners. The second is $1000 to Partners for Paiute. They are challenging anyone group or individual that has the means, to join them in donating to the many worthy organizations that serve Scottsdale’s most vulnerable. Over the next few weeks, the Scottsdale Firefighters Association anticipates donating $10,000 to those in need in our community.

More thanks!

The Rotary Club of Scottsdale, the Scottsdale Charros and the Legacy Foundation have also given sizeable donations to help citizens in need through Scottsdale Community Partners. Many thanks to these wonderful civic groups for their generosity and to all the wonderful individual citizens who have stepped up to assist our many neighbors who are facing unprecedented challenges. Addressing community concerns in video series

The city of Scottsdale staff and I are answering community concerns in a series of short videos which can be found on the city of Scottsdale’s YouTube page.

Basketball, volleyball, tennis, and pickleball courts are closed

Per Executive Order of the Governor, all basketball courts, splash pads, playgrounds and similar amenities, including volleyball, tennis and pickleball courts at Scottsdale parks are closed as of 5 p.m. To encourage proper hygiene, public restrooms in Scottsdale will remain open, but users should obey posted signs regarding physical distance and other practices to limit spread of COVID-19, per guidance of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Arizona Department of Health Services. Open spaces at parks, and the city’s hiking and bicycling trails and other outdoor areas remain open to those practicing physical distancing. The city of Scottsdale strongly encourages all Arizonans to stay at home whenever possible; however if you choose to come to a park, recreate responsibly.

We’re in this together

The State of Arizona has launched a new website, Arizona Together, to keep you informed and connected during the COVID-19 response. It’s a landing page for important resources for individuals and businesses statewide.

Dial 2-1-1 for COVID-19 information in both English and Spanish

Arizonans can now dial 211 to get basic information about how to prevent the spread of the COVID-19, a free service launched with the Crisis Response Network. The line will operate from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and will provide bilingual information on a myriad of COVID-19 topics such as, how to prepare for and prevent the spread, testing information, what to do if an individual gets sick, and COVID-19 and animals.

Separate fact from fiction

While navigating through these times of uncertainty it's vital to stay informed and receive accurate information, which is why the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) launched a page on its website called Coronavirus Rumor Control. The page aims to help the public distinguish between rumors and facts regarding the response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Look for the helpers

Round of applause for Old Town establishment Brat Haus! Place an order for take-out lunch Mondays through Fridays from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., and all proceeds from your lunch purchase will go towards providing no-cost box lunches to heroes on the front lines, including Healthcare workers at HonorHealth Osborn, EMT’s, and Scottsdale firemen and police officers. Thank you to the many businesses and organizations that have stepped up to help in this time of crisis!
