Scottsdale, Arizona (April 2, 2025) A 25-year-old man has been arrested, accused of fatally shooting another man inside an apartment near 5800 N Granite Reef Road on April 2 around 12:25 am. The suspect called 911 to report the shooting and stayed on scene, where he was detained by responding officers. The victim was transported to the hospital but did not survive his injuries. 

On April 2, around 12:25 am, police and fire crews responded to a call of a shooting at an apartment complex near 5800 N Granite Reef Road. Upon officers' arrival, seven people were contacted at the involved residence, including 30-year-old Gino Mendoza, who was found with multiple gunshot wounds. 

Officers rendered emergency medical aid to Mendoza, who was transported to a hospital and later died from his injuries.

Detectives, crime scene personnel and representatives from the Maricopa County Attorney's Office responded to the scene. The investigation continued early into the morning as investigators collected evidence, documented the crime scene and interviewed all involved parties.

The suspect was ultimately placed under arrest and booked into jail for one count of Second-degree murder, ARS 13-1104.A3.

The investigation is still in its early stages. The suspect is alleging self-defense, and the details of the incident are still being investigated.

The Maricopa County Medical Examiner will ultimately determine the cause of death for the victim.
