After 22 remarkable years with Scottsdale, Jennifer Murphy reflects on a career devoted to uplifting and empowering our senior community. She began at the Civic Center Senior Center as a Human Services Specialist, later helping open the Granite Reef Senior Center in 2006, where she served for 13 years. Her leadership journey continued as Human Services Coordinator at Via Linda Senior Center in 2016, eventually guiding social service teams across both centers. She now serves as Human Services Operations Supervisor.
When asked what she loves most about senior services, her answer is simple: everything. She describes her work as a privilege that filled her with purpose and pride, noting that Scottsdale "sets the gold standard" for supporting older adults. While she will miss the work deeply, she leaves confident in the strength, compassion and commitment of the team she calls her "dream team."
One memory she carries with her is supporting an older gentleman who had lost hope and lived in isolation. Through patience and trust-building, she helped him access cataract surgery, long term care support and, most meaningfully, reconnect with his two adult children after years of estrangement, saying "That is what senior services is about—dignity, hope and human connection."
As she enters retirement this coming June, she isn’t planning to slow down. Travel, time with grandchildren, personal growth and possibly volunteering, are all on the horizon.
Jennifer, you are one of a kind. You made an impact on all you served and will be sorely missed by so many in the Scottsdale community. We wish you nothing but the best!
