Scottsdale Cares

Scottsdale Cares

For more than 30 years, Scottsdale utility customers have helped neighbors in need through Scottsdale Cares, the city's voluntary utility bill donation program.

Beginning July 1, the suggested monthly donation will increase to $2. Every dollar donated goes directly to local nonprofit organizations that support families, seniors, youth and residents facing unexpected challenges. Since 1995, Scottsdale residents have contributed more than $5 million to fund programs that strengthen our community. Customers can donate the suggested $2 monthly amount or choose to give more.

Agency Spotlight: Pastor Jackie Parks, Community House

Agency Spotlight: Pastor Jackie Parks, Community House

Since its grassroots launch in July 2018, Community House has led with heart, humor and tenacity by Pastor Jackie Parks. They have grown from a simple outreach ministry into a trusted community anchor for Scottsdale's unhoused residents. What began with a few volunteers offering showers, toiletries, clothing and conversation to a few individuals per week has evolved into a deeply relational effort, grounded in dignity and consistency.

Pastor Jackie often shares that Community House's "secret sauce" lies not only in serving the unsheltered, but in the way it transforms the volunteers themselves.

As the program expanded, first through an evening outreach, then a Day Relief Center partnership with the city of Scottsdale, Community House began serving more individuals with improved comprehensive support. Access to showers, meals, clothing and case management grew alongside volunteer engagement. And true to Pastor Jackie's playful confession, many volunteers joined thinking they were simply helping others, only to discover how meaningful, grounding and rewarding the experience was for them personally. This reciprocal impact has become a hallmark of Community House's culture.

Today, Community House supports roughly 70 people each week with the help of 30 to 40 volunteers, six faith community partners and strong collaborations across the Scottsdale's Human Services team, Scottsdale Police Department and nonprofit partners. From Circle the City health connections to weekly dinners and a fully stocked clothing closet, the program has become a model of community driven, relationship centered care. Under Pastor Jackie's leadership, Community House continues to foster hope, stability and genuine human connection, lifting both those who come seeking support and those who join in serving.
