Duplicate Sanction Bridge

Join us at Scottsdale Senior Centers for sanction duplicate bridge! Games are scheduled weekly and players are allowed to sign up online one month at a time. Cost to play is $10 per person and there will be no refunds or transfers once payment is made. Bridge drop-ins are allowed when space is available. Partners are required. AARP Driver Safety

Become one of the millions of safer drivers on the road by joining us for an AARP Driver Safety class from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 11, at Granite Reef Senior Center. This enhanced course is based on the latest driver's safety research and insights. You will learn evidence-based safe driving strategies and refresh your knowledge on the latest rules and hazards of the road. After course completion, you may be eligible for a multiyear car insurance discount.

Class costs $20 for AARP Members and $25 for non-members. Cash payments will be collected by AARP on class date. Registration is required.

Sound Bath & Meditation

Take a moment and escape the noise of daily life from 10 a.m. to noon on Tuesday, Aug. 25, with the serenity of a sound bath at Via Linda Senior Center. Whether you're seated comfortable in a chair or on the floor, you'll be enveloped by the calming tones of crystal and Tibetan healing bowls, chimes and rain sticks. Enhanced with guided meditation and timeless wisdom, this journey promotes deep rest, renewal and holistic well-being. Registration is required at $15 for residents and $20 for non-residents.

Memory Studio

Brought together between Scottsdale Senior Services and Scottsdale Arts, Memory Studio is a free arts-based program for individuals with mild to moderate memory loss and their care givers. Each workshop introduces a new professional artist who works in visual art, music, dance or drama. The workshops engage participants in creative and innovative ways, inspiring partners to create new and meaningful memories together.

Rental Assistance for Scottsdale Seniors

Did you know that Scottsdale seniors ages 62 and up may qualify for up to 24 months of rental assistance through the city’s Tenant-Based Rental Assistance Program (TBRA)? This program, funded by the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), helps low-income senior residents maintain sage, stable and affordable housing. Recipients of this program can get assistance with monthly rental support paid directly to their landlord and professional case management through local senior centers.

Vista del Camino Community Center

Vista del Camino Community Center provides a variety of services to Scottsdale residents to prevent homelessness, meet the basic needs of individuals and families in crisis, relieve economic and emotional stress and provide recreation activities for families.

Staff Spotlight:
Matthew Alexander, Human Services Case Worker

Matthew Alexander has served as a Human Services Case Worker for the past nine years.

Originally from Northwest Indiana, he attended Purdue University before relocating to Arizona for graduate studies two decades ago. Since completing his education, Matthew has held several impactful roles within the behavioral health and corrections fields. He began his career working with offenders in a corrections treatment agency following his work in an inpatient psychiatric crisis facility. Seeking new challenges, he later joined the Arizona Department of Corrections; however, he soon realized that the 130 mile commute and overnight shifts were not a sustainable fit. This led him to pursue an opportunity with the City of Scottsdale Human Services Department.

Since joining Youth and Family Services, Matthew has played an integral role in developing a unique municipal social service program within the Scottsdale City Court. The program is grounded in core human services principles and distinguishes itself by offering revenue generating services while maintaining a strong commitment to client support. Matthew notes, "It's rewarding to know that I've created a judgment free space built on privacy and trust. Clients will contact me years after their initial interview, seeking assistance with sealing their case. When they share updates about the positive changes they’ve made, it's gratifying to know they learned from their mistakes and are moving in the right direction."

Outside of his work helping individuals navigate challenging moments in their lives, Matthew enjoys an active lifestyle. He spends his free time playing frisbee, running, biking, swimming, hiking, riding dirt bikes, snowboarding, camping, taking road trips and cheering on Purdue Boilermakers and San Antonio Spurs basketball.

Scottsdale Water Rebate Program

Scottsdale supports residents, business owners and HOAs in conserving water through multiple rebate programs. Water conservation is increasingly important as the Southwest faces prolonged drought, making every drop of water precious. Rebates include grass removal, pool removal, WaterSense product installation and more.

The Water Conservation Office is accepting applications on a first-come, first-served basis. Application deadlines vary. Interested participants should read program descriptions and application requirements prior to removing grass or purchasing WaterSense products.
