Scottsdale Public Library
December 2021

Library Director Report

Library Director Report

Hello Library Friends,

As we prepare to say goodbye to 2021, I want to share some final news about select library work accomplished by the Scottsdale Public Library as well as what you can look forward to in 2022.

  • In July 2021, the Scottsdale Public Library became an official Fine Free Library. This is significant because it breaks down barriers to information access and provides equity for all library users.
  • In November of 2021, the Library Card Campaign and Card Holder Celebration Event at Scottsdale Stadium were a success! We had over 3,000 people sign up for library cards and 640 people attend the concert celebration with Rock Lobster at the Scottsdale Stadium. Thanks to all who attended and a special thank you to the Friends of the Scottsdale Public Library for sponsoring the fun!
  • In 2021, Scottsdale Public Library launched the Pony Express which involved using technology to allow patrons library access at Appaloosa Library with the swipe of their library card. This technology implementation helped the library to serve the community during the difficult economic challenges imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • Onward to 2022! The Scottsdale Public Library team is looking forward to restoring Library system operations so that all four library branches are staffed and open for the public to use by January 2022. Please visit our website for specific schedules as we get closer to the new year at ScottsdaleLibrary.org.

The mission of Scottsdale Public Library is Putting People at the Heart of Dynamic Library Services. We take this mission seriously and keep it top of mind in all that we do. On behalf of the Scottsdale Public Library team – We wish you all a Happy Holiday season!

Kira Peters,
Scottsdale Public Library Director
