Auto Renewals

Scottsdale Public Library now has autorenewals! Forget to renew your library materials? No problem - we will extend your lending time automatically. Items with a waitlist or marked as non-renewable cannot be automatically renewed, and eligible items can be renewed up to six times.

Pony Express @ Appaloosa 

Did you know that you can gain access to Appaloosa Library before the building opens in the morning to browse items, pick up holds and use computers? You can! Appaloosa Library is open for self-service from 8 - 10 a.m., Monday – Thursday, and from 8 am. - 1 p.m. on Sundays via our Pony Express program. We Want to Hear From You!

The Scottsdale Public Library is currently working on its 2023-2026 Strategic Plan, and we want your feedback. We will be hosting focus groups at all four library branches this month, plus an online focus group for our digital only users and a separate online 'tech focus' group to talk about technology offerings at the library. (The 'tech focus' group is geared towards people who are proficient with cutting-edge technology to gain feedback on how Scottsdale Public Library can meet the tech needs of the community.) Each discussion will be about 30-45 minutes.

In-Person focus group information:
Appaloosa Branch – 11 a.m. – noon, Tuesday, July 19
Arabian Branch – 10:30 – 11:30 a.m., Thursday, July 21
Mustang Branch – 3 – 4 p.m., Monday, July 25
Civic Center Branch – 3 – 4 p.m., Friday, July 29

Interested in participating? Please fill out a Focus Group Registration form. Registration closes when we reach our capacity limit or on Wednesday, July 13, whichever comes first.

The Magic and Illusions of Eric Giliam

Eric performs a dazzling spectacle of magic, illusions and sleight of hand in his high energy show, which includes music, comedy, and audience participation. This magic show is meant for kids and teens ages 10-18. Space is limited, so please see a staff person prior to the start of the program to pick up a ticket which will be your registration.

Designed to Move: Biomimicry – Innovating from Nature

Nature is the mother of invention - literally! No one knows this better than the architects, designers, engineers, and CEOs engaged in the emerging discipline of biomimicry. Join Adelheid Fischer, a biomimicry writer and educator, for a look at how the forms, processes, and systems of nature are helping to inspire innovative solutions to some of our toughest challenges. A presentation of Scottsdale Arts in support of the Designed to Move exhibit. Join us before the presentation for "mocktails" and light snacks in the Copper Gallery. Registration is required.

Critter Fun: Herpetological Society

(ages 5 and up) Get up close and personal with a variety of amazing Arizona reptiles! A trained volunteer will talk about reptile behavior, habitat, preservation and safety. Rust, Dust, Crust: Discovering Desert Surfaces

The Hills are Alive! If you think the desert floor is all dust, gravel, and rocks, then you haven't taken a good look beneath your feet. The desert's surface is full of life in the form of soil crust, lichen and desert varnish – the living things that probably cover more of the desert than any single kind of plant. We will explore these life forms and how they enrich and protect the desert surface. Presented by the McDowell Sonoran Conservancy.

Back by popular demand - Hoopla returns to Scottsdale Public Library! Hoopla is a library digital service that streams movies, tv series, music, comics, ebooks, and audiobooks that never have wait lines. Content can be streamed on most screens including mobile devices via the Hoopla app, through the website on desktop computers, and on many smart TVs. Read, listen, and watch up to five Borrows per month.
