Hello Library Friends,

National Library Week is April 3-9 and the theme is "Connect with Your Library." Scottsdale Public Library offers wonderfully convenient ways for people of all ages with diverse interests and needs to connect with the world through the library. From the rich physical and electronic materials collection, to expanding library programming, to computer access, the library is a place to connect. By using the Scottsdale Public Library, you can connect with information, entertainment, and library team members who are beyond passionate about connecting you to your world.

National Library Week is April 3-9

National Library Week is April 3-9

Using the theme "Connect with Your Library", we invite you to design your own bookmark. A winning design from each category (Youth ages 4-7, Tweens ages 8-11, Teens ages 12-17, and Adults ages 18 and up) will be printed as limited-edition bookmarks. Print out the submission form or pick one up from your favorite library branch and submit by April 9 to be considered. Submissions can be dropped off at any library branch or submitted online using the hashtag #ScottsdaleLibraryWeek2022.
 



Teen Summer Volunteers

Teen Summer Volunteers

The library is looking for friendly, energetic, and responsible teens between the ages of 14-17 to assist with the 2022 Summer Reading Program and other special library projects. Earn volunteer credits and valuable work experience. Complete a volunteer application at ScottsdaleLibrary.org/teen/volunteers.

Applications will be accepted April 1 - May 8.

Hometown Happy Hour

Join us for some non-alcoholic "Mock-tails" and a light snack before hearing about the 50-year history of the water department. Community historian Joan Fudala will explore Scottsdale’s water history, from the development and use of the canals to today’s reclamation and conservation, in celebration of the city of Scottsdale Water Department’s 50th anniversary.

Scottsdale Public Library is proud to offer e-books, audiobooks, music, magazines, newspapers, streaming films, and kid's read-alongs. New to all these amazing online services? We now offer Drop-in eMedia Classes at all branches! Bring your mobile device, library card, and questions, and knowledgeable library staff will help get you started.

April is Citizen Science Month: Drop by your favorite library branch to pick up a Citizen Science kit April 22-29 during the City’s weeklong celebration of Earth Day and Arbor Day. Check our website for fun activities you can do to contribute to scientific research projects across the country!

Did you know that curbside hold pick-up is now available at Civic Center Library? Select "Civic Center Curbside" as your pickup library when placing holds and once your items are ready for pick up, simply head to the specified curbside pick up spots on N. 75th St. just north of E. 2nd St. For a map and more details, visit Scottsdalelibrary.org/curbside.

Book Lovers rejoice! Your purchases via Amazon.com can now benefit Scottsdale Public Library through The Friends of Scottsdale Public Library. This means your purchases of books, groceries, technology, and other products on Amazon will raise money for the library.

Simply visit AmazonSmile instead of Amazon.com when you are ready to buy. It is the same shopping experience, but Amazon will donate .5% of your purchase to the Friends. If you shop via your phone, you can also utilize AmazonSmile via the Amazon Shopping app. Simply click "Settings" when you are in the app, choose "AmazonSmile," then follow the on-screen instructions to link your account with the Friends.

Beat the Heat Outreach Program

Beat the Heat Outreach Program

You can bring summer relief to low-income, homebound and isolated seniors by donating to our Beat the Heat outreach program. Donation items are being accepted now through May 27 and can be dropped off to Via Linda Senior Center at 10440 E. Via Linda Scottsdale, AZ 85258. Monday – Thursday, 8 a.m. – 8 p.m. and Friday 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Scottsdale Earth Week Celebrates Commitment to Sustainable Future

From volunteer road cleanups and tree giveaways, to a solar power presentation and green expo breakfast with the Mayor and City Council, Scottsdale has a full line-up of events for everyone looking to recognize Earth Day and make our city a better place.

Scottsdale Earth Week begins Friday, April 22 (Earth Day), and runs through Friday, April 29 (Arbor Day), concluding with a tree-planting ceremony to celebrate Scottsdale’s 40th year as a Tree City USA community. Earth Week is an opportunity to shine the light brighter on environmental topics that Scottsdale focuses on year-round.
